Michael van Gerwen was the most dominant force of the modern PDC era — a three-time World Champion, seven-time Premier League winner, and former world number one for an unbelievable 2,559 days.
But behind the trophies, 2025 became the year everything cracked.
After losing the 2025 PDC World Darts Championship final 7–3 to Luke Littler, van Gerwen called it “probably my worst year ever” as his health, form, and personal life spiraled.
In May 2025, MVG publicly announced his separation from Daphne Govers and stepped away from tournaments during a brutal stretch.
Later, Dutch media coverage around Daphne’s new relationship and pregnancy made the situation even more public — and in January 2026, she gave birth to a daughter named Mila (shared via Instagram and reported by Dutch outlets).
On the oche, the pressure showed too. Van Gerwen suffered a 4–1 loss to Gary Anderson at Ally Pally in late December 2025.
But even in the middle of all that, MVG still flashed the competitor that made him great — winning the 2026 Bahrain Darts Masters, beating Gian van Veen 8–6 in the final.
